Cayuga Fragrant Viburnum or Viburnum x ‘Cayuga’

Just when you need some reassurance that spring is actually here to stay, Viburnum ‘Cayuga’ produces a beautiful display of pink buds that open into white snowball blooms in late April through May. The fragrance fills the surrounding area and will be enjoyed by neighbors, passersby, and inside your home, through the occasional open window. Spring is definitely here to stay.
 
Viburnum ‘Cayuga’ is quite adaptable our Chicago area climate and soil conditions. It is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well drained soils. It prefers full sun to part shade and is very disease resistant. It is considered a moderately compact deciduous shrub that grows an average of 4-6’ high and wide. The flowers eventually give way to fruit that mature and turn black in late summer. The glossy oval leaves turn a dull red-orange color in the fall.
 
Viburnum ‘Cayuga’ is an indispensable shrub in the residential landscape. Because of its attractive, spreading branching structure, this Viburnum can stand alone as a specimen or it can be massed together to form a screen. If pruned back properly, or in the right location, this shrub can also be used as a foundation grouping. This shrub is a wonderful addition to any garden.
